The promotion system helps automate recurring discounts or can be used for specific deals like "Set Menus" that offer a discount when all required items are selected. Here's a step-by-step guide to setting up a promotion.
Step 1: Create a New Promotion
- Navigate to the promotion section and click on "New" to create a promotion.
- Name your promotion: Enter a descriptive name that will appear in your Backoffice system.
- Short description: Provide a short description that will be displayed on the POS screen.
- Receipt text: Enter a short label for how the promotion should appear on the customer's receipt. Make sure it's concise to fit properly on the receipt.
Step 2: Choose a Promotion Type
There are two types of promotions:
- Set Menu:
- This type applies when all the specified items in the promotion are selected.
- Example: A lunch menu promotion where customers can choose from 22 starters and 91 mains. Once a customer selects one item from each category, the promotion is automatically applied, and the discount is triggered.
- Mix and Match:
- This type applies a discount when a specified number of items are selected from a defined “Product Bin.”
- You can select individual products or entire sub-departments.
- Example: Select 2 products from the Draught sub-department to apply a discount.
Step 3: Select the Discount Type
After selecting the promotion type, you need to define the Discount Type. You can choose from:
- Percentage Off: Reduces the price by a percentage.
- Fixed Amount Off: Reduces the price by a specific amount.
- Set Price: Sets the final price for the items.
For example, you can set a Set Price discount with a Discount Value of £15, meaning the total price will be adjusted to £15 when the promotion is applied.
Step 4: Set the Promotion Dates and Times
- Choose the Date and Time for the promotion to run. Unlike discounts, which need to be applied via a button on the till, promotions automatically apply in the background if the required items are selected during the promotion time frame.
- If you want to prompt the clerk to apply the promotion when applicable, enable the Up-Selling feature, which functions similarly to a discount.
Step 5: Configure Product-Specific Discounts (Optional for Mix and Match)
If you're using the Mix and Match promotion type, you can either:
- Apply the discount to the entire group of items, or
- Set individual discounts for each product by navigating to the Product Discounts section.
Step 6: Save and Apply Your Promotion
- Once all the settings are configured, click "Save".
The promotion will now run automatically during the specified time frames and apply the defined discounts when the correct items are selected.
