In recent months you’ll have heard plenty about the changes being made to how online payments are processed, and at the heart of this is what’s known as the ‘second generation’ of 3D Secure (or “3DSv2” for short). Gradually through 2021 and into 2022, some online purchases processed using the current security (3DSv1) will start to be declined as card issuers migrate to using the new standards. Later in 2022 3DSv1 will no longer be permitted and will be fully replaced by the 3DSv2 standards.
Considering these industry changes we have carried out a review of which payment gateways are most widely used by our customers and therefore which we will undertake the development work on (to make them 3DSv2 compatible) and which we will not.
The conclusion of this review is that it would be uneconomical for us to undertake the requisite development on the Windcave gateway used by your property.
What does this mean to you?
- Online
- 6th December 2021 through to 14th March 2022: reduced levels of Support available
- 14th March 2022: full withdrawal of the online payment gateway
To be clear – you will no longer be able to take online payments through Windcave and Guestline from this date
- Chip & PIN transactions
- No change until June 2023
- June 2023 through until June 2024: reduced levels of Support available
- June 2024: full withdrawal of the Chip & Pin integration
To avoid any disruption to your payment processing through Rezlynx or Guestline EPoS you will need to have alternative facilities in place ahead of the dates outlined above.
Guestline recommends “GuestPay”, our integrated 3DSv2 compliant payment solution providing equivalent capability. Please contact your Account Manager for more information.

Guestline products already work with a number of other Payment Gateways, including Guestline’s own GuestPay solution.
These Payment Gateways then connect to several different Acquirers.
The table below shows a summary of the options available to you.
Note – we will not be supporting any other integrated Chip & PIN offerings other than those in the table above.

- Steps you can take now:
- Begin to review your Gateway options from the list above – we are happy to provide details on each provider. Please note that while other Gateways (not listed above) are available, these are not supported with Guestline products.
- Check whether you need to change acquirer? If your chosen Gateway does not support your existing acquirer, then you will also need to change your acquirer. Please contact Guestline for further information.
- Transition over to one of the Gateways listed above before the 14th March 2022. We would recommend that you do so at the earliest opportunity.

In the meanwhile, we would reiterate that this change initially applies to online payments only. Chip & PIN transactions will be unaffected until 2024, but you may also wish to consider your Chip & PIN options before this date.

- Will I need new Chip & PIN terminals?
- When your current Windcave contract expires you will need new terminals – you should do so at the very latest by June 2024.

- What happens if there is a hardware fault with my Windcave Chip & PIN terminals before my Windcave contract expires?
- Windcave will now no longer replace any terminals which experience a hardware issue unless you are also planning to migrate your Acquiring services to Windcave. This decision was made by Windcave and is not within Guestline’s control.
- What will happen with my existing tokens?
- In practical terms tokens are not transferable. Guestline advises running the two gateways, Windcave and the new gateway, in parallel. The existing Windcave tokens would only be used where further funds are required and the card details cannot be obtained for the transaction. In all other cases the new Gateway would be used.
- Alternatively, if you have chosen Guestpay, you could request a deposit for full or part payment using the integrated PayLink functionality. This allows users to send a Payment Link to guests permitting them to complete a secure online payment that will automatically update the booking with the deposit. The benefit of this method is that it avoids a MOTO transaction that is more open to chargebacks.
- Will I face any Gateway termination fees? If so, who picks up the cost?
- Providing your initial contact term has ended and you are on a rolling monthly renewal, you shouldn’t be subject to termination fees. Please speak to your Guestline advisor for more details on this.
- I use WorldPay acquiring – what are my options?
- If you wish to maintain your WorldPay acquiring service then you should opt for the WorldPay Gateway option.
- Will there be any down time when I cannot take payments during the move between gateways/acquirers?
- Providing you act in plenty of time there is no reason why the process wouldn’t be seamless with no downtime.
- Will the other Gateways work in the same way as Windcave?.
- Yes - both Trust Payments and Worldpay’s gateways are integrated into Guestline products. With GuestPay there are some additional integration benefits that are not available to Worldpay gateway users e.g. integrated Paylink, integration with GuestStay, alternative payment support
- I want to use Amex but can’t see it on your list
- Amex is an independent acquirer used in conjunction with another mainstream acquiring service. Contact your Amex account manager for more information.
- I would like to speak with someone about my options and get a demonstration of the other gateways/payment solutions. Is this possible?
