Overview
What it does
GuestPay Chip & Pins with Guestline EPOS gives the users the ability to take a card/contactless payment in a ‘retail style’. This means that the request to take a payment begins with an EPoS user starting the action within the EPoS system; this, in turn, starts the process on the chip & pin device.
Who has it?
This will be available for all Guestline EPOS customers using the latest version of the Guestline EPOS software (v6).
Benefits
- Reduce the errors made by users when manually taking entering an incorrect payment amount on a chip & pin device.
- Stop users manually recording the incorrect Payment Type in EPoS software which can adversely affect accounting/reporting.
- This will save the users time when:
- Needing to refund the whole of a closed order
- Needing to adjust payment on a bill
- Needing to adjust payment on a closed bill
- Need to refund a GuestPay chip & pin payment
- As the users need to select the original order to refund it will be more accurate than manually carrying out the refunds.

How it works – Taking a Payment
1. Proceed to the Payment Screen
Once you have logged in to Guestline EPoS navigate to the order (or created the order) you wish to take payment for you will need to enter the payment screen. You will find it toward the bottom left corner of the main screen. If you are viewing a tabled bill it will be in the bottom right corner.
If you have the user right to use “Fast Cash” you can double press the button that has been set up to trigger the payment on the chip & pin device. Alternatively, enter an amount or press the “Exact Amount” button.
2. Trigger the Chip & Pin device
Double press the button that has been set up to trigger the payment on the chip & pin device.
N.B. You are also able to type an amount in and then press the payment button if you want to make a payment for a specific amount.
Please note that the Payment Code that is recorded is based on the actual card that is used to make payment. The chip & pin device will provide that information to the EPoS when the payment has been completed.
3. Select the device
Once you have pressed the button to make a payment there will be a popup asking you to choose which device the payment is taken on. Press “Confirm”.
This will always be the last device used on the specific EPoS terminal. If you wish, you can choose a different device if the normal device you select is in use/shared by other terminals. You will need to remember the next time you send a payment request that it may need changing back.
4. Customer adds the payment
The chip & pin machine will now start its process of asking the customer to insert their card or use the contactless method. Once the payment has been made the device will start printing the customer and merchant copy of the card receipts.
Once you have sent the payment to the chip & pin you can cancel it on the chip & pin device. Simply press the red cancel button. The EPoS will then show a message that the payment was cancelled on the device. You can close this and carry on sending the request for payment again or choosing an alternative payment method.
5. Waiting for Payment to complete
On the EPoS terminal, the screen will show a wait timer until the payment has been completed. There is some text reading “Requested”, “Pending”, and “Approved” on-screen to follow if you wish.
6. Bill Closing
Once the full payment is made the EPoS bill will close and (if you have it enabled) a receipt will print.
