As we know, American Express (AMEX) customers have lots of great benefits and rewards when they choose to pay with that provider.
However, for you, there are some important need to knows when it comes to accepting AMEX and subsequent reconciliation.
As Guestpay customers, you will be using Omnipay to reconcile payments which come into your bank account. However, AMEX will not feature on this platform.
AMEX works as its own independent acquirer, and thus will have its own reconciliation tool similar to the Omnipay RAM tool. Unfortunately, this is something kept separate from us and Guestpay, so you would need to contact AMEX directly to get some advice on reconciling these amounts.
Sometimes, you may see AMEX transactions as 'settling' on MyST for longer than other card providers. This is completely normal for AMEX and is a result of the longer settlement process. Whereas Visa and Mastercard can go straight from the point of sale > MyST > Omnipay, AMEX has to go through its own acquirer and thus can generate a longer time period before it shows as 'settled'.
Therefore, when it comes to refunding AMEX, you may need to do it via another payment method e.g. BACS on manually on the card machine in an un-integrated state. Our support teams can guide you through this if needed.
3. Top Ups (Pre-Auth Adjustment)
The ability to top up an existing pre-auth and reserve additional funds is not supported by AMEX at this time.
4. DCC (Direct Currency Conversion)
Similarly to point 3, the ability for international card holders to pay in their native currency is not supported by AMEX - this is only available to Visa and Mastercard holders.
